Emergency Trailering
A list of items for traveling in an emergency
If you live in an area where you need to move horses in a hurry, such as during an approaching wildfire, having these items compiled in advance can make life a lot easier for you and your horse.
Non-horse items to have in your truck/trailer
· Duct tape
· Black marker and paper
· Hammer, screw driver and pliers
· Knife
· Headlamp/flashlight
· Wd4o
· Human first aid kit/medicine
Horse items to have in your truck/trailer
· Extra lead rope and halter
· Buckets for water and feed
· Blanket/fly sheet
· horse first aid kit, including Bute, Banamine and anything else you might need
· Pelleted feed/bale of hay
Identification (examples) Think more, not less
· Black marker and paper
· Luggage tags (for tying in mane)
· Cattle tags (for tying in mane)
· Reflective tape
· Show Touch Up non-toxic paint
· Air Tag (GPS tracker)
· ID tags on halters

· microchipping
Signage for trailer and/or stalls, with all of your info included. (In a baggie or laminated)
· One in the window of your truck
· One in the stall where your horse will be
· One taped inside your trailer
· Tape
Trailering Basics
· Have easy-to-catch horses (work with them well in advance)
· Practice catching in non-emergencies
· Load your horse in different trailers
· Be flexible
· Stay calm
